DSRL RC: S3 Rally Discussion

This thread will be used for the discussion of all the season 3 rallies with a title change implemented for each active round.

Ho-LEE! What a rush! Im pretty new to the 131 so took it easy coming out the blocks but quickly felt comfortable in the car... By stage 2 i felt happy with the speed. Stage 3 was probably the most fun ive had with the nomex on! Sure here were a few clips and necessary lifts but I felt like he-man! On a high i headed in to 5, Bidno reverse.... 'This one im familiar with, I can get a whip on here, I thought... Nope.... TV blinked out coming up the hill so i ended up bouncing way off back down the hill to the left. Ok, suck it up, crack on... Push.... Nope... came through the 3 right-square left, proceeded to heed the boot through the floor and 'blink' tv off...... nuts and indeed acorns.... Still, made it to the end, still without a bent panel on the car.
Stage 6.... Dafuq! The first half went well..... The rain and time of day makes it hellish to see at times though and i struggled to differentiate between the welsh gravel and the NASA instant launch pad burms at the side of the road.... Struggled on though and kept it together fairly well, until the second half of the stage..... whipping through the quick stuff tentatively I quickly discovered 6 right meant 4 right, keep in..... EVERY TIME! 1 spin and two unnecessary exorset launches into the slippy as feck wilderness saw me lose well over 30 seconds from what was a decent struggle through my least favourite round of Drally.....
Still, no matter.... For once i finished with a pretty straight car and no dead spectators! Fingers crossed for a top ten time.... But for Colin's sake, If you aren't too familiar with wales, Back off a bit in the last stage....! To finish first etc....

A rally of two halves for me. After some shakedown runs things were feeling good, so proceeded to the start & got maybe 400yds into the 1st stage when i saw it, the most perfect one I'd ever seen!! So i did what any other would have, i smashed me radiator hard against the trunk of that perfect tree! Quite how I didn't see that vision of perfection on my shakedown runs I'll never know, but one things for sure, i couldn't find another one anywhere near as perfect on the next three stages despite my multiple & dedicated attempts to! The last three stages were decidedly boring, clean & seldom putting a wheel wrong. But hey, I've got 5 more rallies to find more idyllic scenery to test my cars robustness on :lol!:

My usual rally preparation, no practice, no set-up and no shakedown.

I just hit the stages . 3 . . 2 . . 1 . . GO! Keep my fingers crossed and buttocks clenched.

The first time out in a Fiat 131 for me and I must say www.rallysport-development.co.uk up here in Yorkshire have built me a wonderful car.

The Welsh stages were in great shape, the car was great, the driver was below average.
I just made far too many mistakes on each stage but I`m pleased to make it to the finish. Whatever the result I`ll be happy as I`m glad to be back out there up against some serious competition.

Unfortunately my Stage 6 footage has failed so am unable to use it. Sorry.
Had a fairly good last stage bar a stupid spin at on of the hairpins and got stuck on a tree in doing so which cost me 15 seconds. Other than that and a few hairy moments I am happy with my first rally in ages.
Onto next week in Greece!

great stuff guys, seems like quite the eventful rally for a few drivers already! 

I did my stages today and everything was going great up until stage 4. I had just put in some solid times for SS2 & 3 to gain a healthy 10 second lead while increasing in confidence with the car handling. Going into stage 4 I felt I could push some more, so I went a bit quicker in the tight forest section and hit a blind crest all wrong ... launching me into a rock face and then a tree. I was lucky to not get a DNF as the radiator and engine block took a massive hit.
I thankfully made it to the end of the stage but dropped down to 2nd place with 2 stages to go. I knew I had to really push to make the time back up but I had to be very careful not to go off again with the damage. Stage 5 went relatively well, I clawed back down to a 2 second gap and then went for it in the rainy stage 6 after the final service.

   
That flat out approach worked in the end to get me back the provisional lead on the long final stage.

Round 1 is now complete!


A few late sign ups got their entries in successfully at the last minute and still managed to get a final time on the board before the event ended, wow!  
some others weren't so lucky, with 3 drivers facing round 1 DNFs and even a couple racenet time disqualifications for having incomplete registration.

Congratulations to the podium drivers & all finishers of Round 1.
Next up we quickly move on to Rally Greece for round 2!

Greece. Came out the box rapidly. Eased off in 2, 2 hates me. Gets up to p5. Gets stuck on a small hush in stage 4, stuck on a goat poop on stage 5 and stuck on a €1 coin in stage 6 that someone dropped near the edge of the toad. 45 secs in shitbox pointless penalties. I hate it when stupid shit ruins a good event :/

Greece proved to be a tough test for all with 4 event DNFs and another 4 non starters amid rally safety concerns. Many drivers struggled to beat the heat and rough conditions, leading to some small and big crashes along the way. The battle for the rally win and also final podium spot came right down to the wire with just one tenth separating 3rd and 4th by the end of stage 6! 
Well done to the podium drivers and all who were able to finish the event in one piece! Now we move on to round 3 in snowy Sweden...

Sweden.

Like a tortoise full of rigor motis. That`s how slow I was.

After my DNF in Greece I really needed a finish here.
So I was cautious on every stage, had a few spins here n there but nothing major.

I don`t like Sweden anyway, so any result is a good result.
